It has been a dream of two veteran restaurateurs for as long as they can remember.  And now, it's coming true.

After the creation of many restaurants, Bo Ling's owners Theresa and Richard Ng are enjoying the creative process of blending old (a Buddhist temple artifacts given Theresa by her Buddhist monk friend) with new (Richard's state of the art kitchen with dim sum center and Taiwan rice cooker that can make 12 trays of rice at a time!) as well as Feng Shui touches like a waterfall wall, Chinese trellises, porcelain floors, stone carved sinks, beautiful lighting and much more!

"We have been in the restaurant business all over the city, and have had a Plaza location in the Board of Trade for 25 years --- but now, at long last, we will be in the perfect location we have looked for such a long time -the  central Country Club Plaza, with lots of parking and easy carry-out access for our customers," Richard Ng of Bo Ling's says.  "This project has taken a long time to come together, but we think our customers will really be happy with the results."  The doors open June 11, 2012.

For the Ngs --- Richard and  Theresa, who started Bo Ling's at what was then the brand-new Loehmann's Plaza at 91st and Metcalf in 1981; their daughter Rebecca and son Raymond; and other family members and longtime staff who have become like extended family --- this has been a year to remember! Longtime friend, landlord and business partner David Bloch and Block and Company have worked with the Ngs and their staff to convert an office space in the Skelly Building at 47th and Jefferson into a restaurant space.  Theresa and Richard Ng have poured all their energies into building a restaurant that will provide much more than excellent food --- it will be a perfect place to meet with friends and enjoy!

The results will feature many finds from the Ngs frequent trips to China over the years.  The result is a beautifully eclectic blend of old and new --- from marble floors to imported Chinese latticework, lighting and art create the atmosphere the Ngs have always provided --- and then, there's the food, of course!  Bo Ling's Chinese gourmet food shows off Chinese regional specialties as well as sushi and other specialties --- Richard refreshes the menu often as he searches for something new and different to tempt your palate and test his culinary chops.  The Ngs really appreciate their Chinese teas, and love nothing better than introducing you to some blends you haven't tried before!  The fun of choosing new Chinese tableware - or eating in one of the five private dining rooms in the new restaurant --- just adds to the eating experience.

A beautiful curved counter allows Plaza customers who need a quick lunch to come in and grab a nourishing small plates of dumplings, noodles, dim sum. Boxed lunches will be in refrigerated cases for those who need to grab lunch and go.  If you want to linger, you may want to sit in a booth with windows for Plaza people watching as you dine.

"We feel we have created our best space," Richard says --- "and we have more surprises coming! With each new restaurant, we have tried to improve and bring something new to our customers," he says.  Thanks to much attention to detail and the inspirational work of employee and Feng Shui specialist and calligraphy artist Ivy Tan, the new restaurant has achieved the Bo Ling's goals for it.  The results are beautiful - and many Bo Ling's customers  will be happy that their General Tso's Chicken is just steps away from Plaza offices!  "We have made it as easy for our carry-out customers as we can," Richard Ng says. There are two entrances, one on 47th Street and another across from Unity Temple.  Don't worry about your to-go orders --- there is plenty of parking all around the location for that purpose!

The new restaurant will feature its famous weekend dim sum , a feast of well over 50 types of Chinese appetizers that has won top kudos from so many of KC's top food critics, and welcomes customers from all over the region. Some dim sum will be available daily. Richard Ng, who has won international recognition for his Chinese cuisine, is adding all sorts of new items to the menu for the grand opening of the new Plaza restaurant - but will also keep your favorites available.  Bo Ling's has long been a favorite with those who have special dietary needs --- the Bo Ling's family and  staff are well known for its quality preparations and wide variety  including some of the best vegetarian fare in town.

The new restaurant will include a large bar where you can sit and have a quick lunch (all sorts of new Chinese small plates have been added); bubble drinks and cocktails, and something fun and new - sushi at Bo Ling's!  Recently, Bo Ling's has added custom cakes and cupcakes to its offerings, and the results are both delicious, spectacularly beautiful, and very reasonably priced.

This restaurant replaces the Board of Trade restaurant, the second restaurant the Ngs opened in 1987. Other Kansas City locations are in the City Market at Fifth and Walnut; Zona Rosa Shopping Center in North Kansas City; and three restaurants in Overland Park, Kansas at 90th and Metcalf; 135th and Metcalf; and 95th and Quivira.
