Eat local for the Holidays

Support your area farmers and “Eat local for the Holidays!” Why choose food that has traveled hundreds or thousands of miles before it reaches your table when you can get fresh selections right here in your own town? A local group, the Kansas City Food Policy Coalition is helping to raise awareness regarding all of the tasty selections that are available here and where you can purchase them. They are asking that Kansas Citians pledge to have at least one local food item as part of a holiday meal. Those who take the pledge will be entered into a drawing to win local food prizes. Go to www.eatlocalkc.net to register your pledge. According to this group, fresh foods are generally more nutrient rich, have more flavor and use fewer if any chemical preservatives. Choosing locally grown is good for you, the environment and the economy!
