Dear Friends & Valued Customers:
We are very happy to announce that for our June wine tasting, we
will be featuring Willamette Valley Vineyards from Oregon. Willamette Valley
Vineyards is the first native Oregonian owned winery. Jim Bernau, the Owner
first started the vineyard in 1993 by planting cool climate varietals like
pinot noir, chardonnay & pinot gris. Their approach is hand grow &
harvest the grapes to show the original characteristics of the varietals. They
are blessed by ideal soil condition that is iron rich & also a geographic
location that is on a slope so the vineyard gets more exposure to the sun. The
vineyard is also 500-750 feet above the valley floors which allows them to
escape the frost line. Willamette Valley Vineyards is an award winning winery
& is renowned for their pinot noirs due to the climatic conditions of
Willamette Valley.
We are proud to host Mary Joli, the National Representative for
the Willamette Valley Vineyards Wine Tasting. She will bring first hand
experience & knowledge of the viticulture, the winery & the wine making
process. We will be tasting four wines from Willamette Valley
Vineyards--riesling, pinot gris, whole cluster pinot noir & estate pinot
noir. Their Pinot Gris received 90 points from Wine Enthusiast & was also
the 2013 Oyster Wine Award Winner. Willamette Valley Vineyards was also the
2011 Winery of the Year from Wine & Spirits magazine. In addition, this
winery also practices sustainable agriculture & is the first winery to use
sustainable cork stoppers certified by the Rainforest Alliance.
Our Chef/Co-Owner, Armando Paniagua has paired the four wines of
Willamette Valley Vineyards with seafood courses using crudo, searing, crusting
& grilling cooking techniques. Chef Armando has paired the wines with light
seafood dishes keeping the warm Kansas climate in mind. For the Pinot Gris, he
is pairing a Parmesan Breadcrumb Crusted Diver Sea Scallop with citrus salad in
honey-dijon vinaigrette & ending with Seared Ahi Tuna wrapped with House
cured pancetta with the Estate Pinot Noir to cite a few examples from the menu.
