Tour of Latin Flavors
First annual event
to benefit Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater KC
The first annual Comida event will be held
Wednesday, May 1 at the Rozelle Court within the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
This historic Kansas City venue will create an entertaining and unique Spanish
backdrop for the gala benefiting the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater
Kansas City and will feature Latin musicians and performers along with
reinterpretations of traditional dishes and libations from a variety of Latin
American and Hispanic countries.
Celebrity Chef Aarón Sánchez of Food Network fame and
owner/creator of Mestizo in Leawood will be an honorary co-chair of the event
along with local chef Michael Smith of restaurants Extra Virgin and Michael
Smith in Kansas City. Gerry Lopez, CEO of AMC Entertainment, will also serve as
an honorary co-chair. Chefs Sánchez and Smith will sample food from their
restaurants at the event.
Other participating chefs include: Colby and Megan
Garrelts of Bluestem and RYE; Jennifer Maloney of Café Sebastienne; Patrick
Ryan of Port Fonda; Sam Silvio of Em Chamas; and Mark Kelpe, owner of McCoy’s,
Foundary, and Beer Kitchen. There will also be eight mixologists from area
restaurants that will delight guests with an assortment of custom specialty
cocktails.
Comida 2013 – A World Tour of Latin Flavors is a black-tie event and will begin at 5 p.m. on May 1
with a VIP patron/sponsor cocktail reception for $350/couple. General attendees
can obtain their “passport” to the main event by purchasing tickets for $125
each via the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce website at www.hccgkc.com. The main event will be from
7-10 p.m.
