Oktoberfest! 2012

Starting on Saturday 28, the world will get a little bit crazier: it's the beginning of Oktoberfest!

3rd annual Grünauer Oktoberfest Kansas City's home for authentic Austrian cuisine, will, according to owner Nicholas Grünauer, host an "expanded and extended version of last year's" Oktoberfest. This year's event, sponsored by Hofbräu, will take place Friday September 28th & 29th and will feature food, beer and a variety of live entertainment in two large tents in front of the Freighthouse restaurant. The newly renovated biergarten will be tented and serve as the food hub featuring a variety of traditional Oktoberfest fare prepared by Chef de Cuisine MatthiasSeyfrid (weisswurst, bratwurst, pretzels,apple strudel, kassler rippchen, kartoffelsalat and more).

A second larger tent just to the south will serve as the music tent with live acts ranging from authentic German dancers, polka bands and more family-friendly entertainment during the day. At night the music tent will play host to a variety of Kansas City's notable jazz and rock performers. Both tents will serve a full lineup of beers from Hofbräu, including their 2012 Oktoberfest brew.

Tickets may purchased in advance and at the restaurant beginning in August. Advance tickets will be $10 and will include a Hofbrau draft and access to the entertainment tent . Tickets purchased at the door will be $15. For more information about this event call 816.283.3234.

Another early Oktoberfest is held in downtown Lee's Summit Friday, September 28 (5–11 p.m.), and Saturday, September 29 (9 a.m.–11 p.m.)

The Shawnee German-American Club's ninth annual Oktoberfest celebration is scheduled for 5:30 to 11 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Shawnee Civic Centre. The event will feature performances by the Willie Kirst German Band and the Blautaler Schuhplatter dancers. Also planned are games for children, German food and prizes. Admission is free.

Parktoberfest
