UNESCO adds French food to cultural heritage list


The "gastronomic Meal of the French" has just been registered to the intangible heritage of the Humanity by the experts of U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at Nairobi in Kenya this week. It is the first time that a gastronomy in the world attains this statute.

The adults love, the children are bored often in front of the unending parade of plates: appetizers, entree, cheese, dessert, liqueur... Today a French art distinguished as heritage of humanity.

This tradition to muster itself around a meal would date back to the XVIIe century. What it is a matter of the dinner daily, sometimes of the lunch in the countries, of the meal sunday or of the one linked to the events religious or other festive or not as a marriage or a death. It is therefore the meal linked to the French cultural identity that is put forward, in all its composing including the art of the table, the quality of food and this community notion linked to the gastronomy.

Communities to the different identities, the French meal is as well Provençal as Norman or again linked to the immigration. The couscous having become the one of the dishes more popular in the Hexagon.

This classification of the French gastronomic meal as intangible heritage of humanity should thus put in value quality of food and allow preserve it against the bad eating linked to the globalization.
