Silver medal

Café Tempo at Johnson County Community College received a silver medal in the “retail sales— stand-alone” category of the National Association of College and University Food Services 2010 Dining Awards, announced April 26. Operated by JCCC’s Dining Services, Café Tempo placed among mid-size colleges and universities.

Café Tempo is a 110-seat café that shares space between the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art and the Regnier Center at JCCC. Half the seats of the upscale café are in the museum, and the rest are in the two-story glass atrium connecting the buildings, for a total of 2,400 square feet.

The executive chef for Café Tempo is Tim Johnson, and the manager is Jan Affalter.

The café’s fare ranges from pastries, omelets and quiche for breakfast to salads, soups, Panini sandwiches, pasta, fish and desserts for lunch. Patrons will always find espresso drinks, fresh fruit and beverages.

In the evening, Café Tempo offers college and private catering, often in the form of elegant sit-down dinners before shows in the college’s performing arts spaces.

Café Tempo is open 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, closed Sunday. For more information, call 913-469-8500, ext. 3219
