The Drop Bar

Image
Yup. You read it correctly. The Drop is offering a chance to win a bottle of  Boulevard Chocolate Ale  that you can win. Did we mention the  winning  thing?  When Boulevard Chocolate Ale was released several weeks ago, it broke our heart (mostly because we didn't get to drink any) to sell out of the entire case in the  first two hours  we offered it. One minute  they were there , and they next  they were gone . Very sad (again, for us).  However, after some creative horse-trading, Eddie managed to obtain a second  full case of the coveted Chocolate Ale . (The batch number is 2011-5. We are aware of Boulevard's recent announcement regarding a few faulty batches.  http://www.kansascity.com/2012/02/15/3431452/its-not-you-its-the-beer-chocolate.html   This is the good stuff ) We know that many Kansas Citians have never had the opportunity to try the Ale, so The Drop staff conspired to find a creative way to make ...

What Makes Happy Hour Happy

Restaurant and bar operators like "Happy Hours" because they fill up the establishment at times when it might otherwise be empty—typically late afternoon and early evening on weekdays. Consumers flock to happy hours, but why? If an operator eased back on drink specials, would they still come? How important is the food— and its price? Do consumers see happy hours primarily as occasions to save money in a restaurant or bar, or as a great way to hang out with friends and family? When we * asked consumers about why they patronize happy hours, price considerations did turn up high on the list—46% said they were drawn by good prices on drinks, and almost as many (41%) said value-priced food was an allure. A quarter (26%) pointed out that happy hour is a lower-priced alternative to a dinner out at a restaurant— although almost as many (24%) said they appreciated the chance to stay on for a sitdown dinner rather than decamping to their homes or another restaurant. Happy hour...

Sushi House Leawood

Image
Sushi House Leawood is managed by a talented couple and offers a nice dining experience. I was anxious to try their head chef Jin's favorite seasonal appetizer -"Grilled Black Cod with Miso" -  it was the last day on special so I hurried over. Shortly after sitting down the server brought a warm damp towel to cleanse my hands. The décor is sleek & comfortable. I ordered my cod and I wasn’t disappointed. Delicious! The chef said that he is now grilling the fish because it brings out more flavor, therefore the difference in the photo posted.  I am not sure if it was better now but I can assure you it was tender and it could served as an entrée.
