My mom's cooking

"Pot au feu" is a French beef stew. According to chef Raymond Blanc, the pot-au feu is "the quintessence of French family cuisine, it is the most celebrated dish in France. It honours the tables of the rich and poor alike. My mom used to cook "pot au feu", and I have followed her steps. She used to do something different with the left over. Which I do! If you're a culinary artist or budding cook looking for that perfect piece to finish a fantastic meal, there's no doubt you'd find it at Pryde's. Pryde's is a family-owned kitchen and home accessories store in the heart of old Westport, Mo. in Kansas City, Mo. “We have a staggering array of bake ware…cookware…any kitchen gadget. In face we love when people come in and get that glazed-over look,” said Louise Meyers, the store’s current owner. Pryde’s Building is Historic The brick building was built in 1922 for the Helen Thomes School of Dance. Helen Siebert Thomes was born in Kansas City, Mo. in 1884. She conducted the Helen Thomes School of Dancing for several years before retiring in 1942. Decades later Pryde's took over the space. Louise Meyers' parents opened the store in 1968. Cheese Day

Image
Here is a recipe that everyone loves: 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts 1/2 cup soft, fresh goat cheese (such as Montrachet) 1/3 cup pesto (Hen House) 2 tablespoons olive oil All purpose flour Preheat oven to 380°F. Combine goat cheese, pesto in small bowl; mix well.  Dredge chicken breast with flour and add cheese mixture. Roll - secure them with a toothpick. Repeat with remaining chicken and cheese mixture. Heat olive oil in heavy large oven-proof skillet over medium-high heat. Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Fry chicken breast in olive oil until golden brown on all sides, turning occasionally, about 4 minutes. Place skillet with chicken in oven and bake until chicken is tender and cooked through, about 10 minutes. I will take a picture tomorrow when I do it! Accompagnied with zucchini or green beans. Perfect meal! It is fun to do that! Bon Appétit!

Are you still going out on the Plaza?

Image
The Country Club Plaza has been my favorite, reminding me a little Europe. The Country Club Plaza is perhaps our Times Square or little secret. The entire 15-block district, with more than 150 shops and dozens of fine restaurants, makes The Country Club Plaza Kansas City's premier shopping, dining and entertainment destination. blanc burgers + bottles * Bo Ling's * Buca di Beppo Cafe Trio * Chaz on the Plaza Classic Cup * Figlio * Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ * Fogo de Chão® Hibachi * JJ's * Julian * Kona Grill McCormick & Schmick's Melting Pot # M&S Grill Oak Room Plaza III * Starker's Restaurant * In 2011 a shots rang out on the Plaza, and three teenagers were injured. Did that incident have changed your perception of the Plaza?
