Visiting Chef Series - Debbie Gold

Sponsored in part by the KC Originals restaurants, the Chef Mentor series brings local & national culinary artisans to the Broadmoor Bistro to share their expertise & experience.  For 2 days these food artisans work closely with our students in creating a culinary experience to share with the general public - a 5 course gourmet meal.  Tickets to the dinner event is $50 per person in advance or $60 at the door. Proceeds from this dinner benefit student scholarships for continuing education in the culinary arts. https://www.broadmoorbistro.org/reservations/add/date

March 26th - 6 PM   Chef Debbie Gold of The American Restaurant

Reflecting on a culinary career that spans two decades, Chef Debbie Gold of The American Restaurant still seeks challenges. “If you are not continually learning, then you become stagnant,” says Gold, winner in 1999 of the prestigious “Best Chef Midwest” James Beard Foundation Award

Gold, a Chicago native, studied restaurant management at the University of Illinois, and then attended L'Ecole Hoteliere de Tain L’Hermitage in France’s Rhone Valley. Returning to Chicago she honed her culinary skills at Charlie Trotter's then moved to Kansas City in the mid 90's.

Her stunning career here includes a stint at The American before opening her own restaurant 40 Sardines in 2002. Now, back at The American, her concentration is on flawless execution.  Her classical French training is melded with a penchant for local, fresh ingredients and creating food experiences that appeal to the senses & result in a heightened customer experience.  Here is the challenging 5 course menu she has planned:

Amuse Bouche - a tasty treat of Chef's choosing

Appetizer: Trotters and Toast - quail egg, caper, mustard seed

Salad: Radish, watercress, lebna

Protein: Antelope, young ginger, heart of palm, sultana

Dessert: Red Velvet, cocoa, cream cheese
